True Friends are Never Apart

True friends are never apart, maybe in distance but never in heart. 43 years of friendship and a visit to Acres of Hope is a testament to this!

Six friends who met at DePauw Univ in 1981 decided to visit Acres of Hope Uganda, gathered 5 more spouses and kids, and set off on a truly heart-warming journey of a lifetime. The group of 11 visited 6 spectacular Ugandan National Parks after making so many new friends at Acres of Hope! Our new AoHU friends will remain close to our hearts forever!

Some thoughts from AOHU first-time visitors:

“Being a retired teacher, it just amazed me how the community was so full of love, joy and respect. I’m not used to that, where I taught in the US. We were honored to be a part of the student speeches for elections of the next AoHU leaders. These students will be the next leaders of Uganda and the world. My husband and I are so honored to have visited AoHU and can’t wait for our next visit.” – Nancy

“I had no idea what to expect coming to Acres of Hope, but I was hoping that I could in some way be helpful to the kids and staff. As it turns out, the overwhelming love, positivity and joy I experienced each day helped me! I am so grateful for the time my son Grant and I were able to share with everyone.” – Janet

“WOW, was I surprised by AoHU. I found a fantastic caring community, determined to help children who themselves seem determined to succeed. I was so impressed with the operation of the school – the creativity and dedication. The students are caring and motivated and so impressive. We had the privilege of listening to the speeches of the secondary students running for offices – I was blown away. I didn’t want to leave and I want to go back – just being in such a positive environment is exhilarating. Geoffrey has created a very special place.” – Sibley

“I thought visiting Acres of Hope was a prelude to a safari with college friends. But it was so much more than that. I ended up loving the school, its situation, staff and particularly its students. Having myself matriculated through the British O-Level system, I was very impressed with the academic focus of the students and teachers; unexpected and very encouraging. Beyond that I was impressed with the focus of turning students into caring, thinking and dedicated adults. The safari that followed Acres of Hope was the best vacation of my life but the days at AoHU were the most gratifying, by far! I honestly can’t wait to visit again.” – Eric
